The PP Systems Insect Respiration Chamber for CIRAS-3/4 (STD579) is a compact accessory for measuring CO2 respiration from small insects. It connects pneumatically to a compatible PP Systems portable photosynthesis system and requires no electrical connection.
Key Features
- Measures respiration from small insects, allowing changes in CO2 concentration to be assessed using a compatible gas-analysis system
- Compatible with CIRAS-4 and CIRAS-3 systems, providing a dedicated chamber option for PP Systems portable photosynthesis equipment
- Compact 33 cm3 chamber volume, excluding the connected gas tubing
- No electrical connection required, simplifying integration with the compatible instrument
- Removable black end caps, allowing insects to be introduced from either end of the chamber
- Direct pneumatic CIRAS-3 connection, using the white connector that snaps into the PLC Gas port
- Defined gas-tubing arrangement, with the short line marked A connecting to one chamber end and the longer Y-connector line attaching to the other
- Dedicated atmospheric vent, provided by the shorter tubing section on the Y connector
- Lightweight 65 g construction, with a manufacturer-specified line length of 0.33 m
Note: A link pipe between REF IN and AIR OUT is required when conducting gas-exchange measurements with the CIRAS-3. PP Systems currently publishes chamber dimensions of 15.1 cm long x 25 cm diameter alongside a 33 cm3 volume; confirm the diameter with John Morris Group before ordering.
Benefits
- Enables dedicated CO2 respiration measurements from small insect samples using compatible PP Systems equipment.
- Reduces setup complexity because no separate electrical connection or powered chamber is required.
- Simplifies insect loading and removal through the detachable end caps on both sides.
- Supports clear gas routing through labelled tubing, a Y connector and a dedicated atmospheric vent.
- Adds insect-respiration capability to CIRAS-4 or CIRAS-3 systems without requiring a separate gas analyser.
Why Choose the PP Systems Insect Respiration Chamber for CIRAS-3/4 (STD579)?
The STD579 provides a manufacturer-specified chamber for extending compatible CIRAS systems to small-insect CO2 respiration measurements. John Morris Group can assist with confirming system compatibility, chamber dimensions and the correct connection arrangement for your research application.
