GUNT HM 450.04 - Kaplan Turbine

The GUNT HM 450.04 - Kaplan Turbine is a double-regulated reaction turbine with axial flow and adjustable rotor blades and guide vanes, suitable for low-head, high-flow applications. Kaplan turbines maintain high efficiency over a wide range of operating conditions and are commonly used in run-of-the-river power plants.

The HM 450.04 Kaplan Turbine is an accessory for the HM 450C trainer. The experimental unit consists of a rotor with manually adjustable blades, a distributor with manually adjustable guide vanes, a wear-free and adjustable eddy current brake for loading the turbine, and a housing with a transparent pipe element. The transparent cover enables observation of water flow, the rotor, distributor, and adjustment mechanisms during operation. By adjusting the guide vanes and rotor blades, the flow angle and rotor velocity can be optimized for maximum efficiency and minimal losses.
